The restorative justice literature is rich in its depiction of Western culture, practices, norms and theories. It is only recently that we started to explore its normative dimension and practical manifestation in the East. In fact, some have claimed that it is in ancient civilisations such as Persia, China, and Pakistan where the roots of restorative justice can be traced. One could say that from recent findings that, it is indeed rather arrogant to believe that the practice and ethos of restorative justice are exclusively Western developments.

Restorative Justice for All, as an international movement aiming to rebalance power through education and restorative justice, has brought together the leading names in the field to lead on a joint project bridging the West and East. 

Professors Gavrielides and Wong are working together to edit original papers that will address our current knowledge gap by focusing on East and Western civilisations including: Iran, Pakistan, China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
