The Competition

In order to bring the community together and inspire all generations while in isolation, Restorative Justice for All organised an Online Competition for all ages and abilities. We encouraged people to take this opportunity to do something different during lockdown and explore your own abilities, learn about the history of London and spread some community spirit!

This was a great activity to keep children entertained during this time, but also for everyone to show their talent!

Thanks to the support of City of London we arranged a number of prizes for those who wanted to get inspired by the Square Mile!

The Square Mile, also known as London City, is an area in the centre of the city which has become an affluent hub of finance and business in London. Some of its most notorious buildings are: the bank of England, Mansion House, Guildhall, St Lawrence Jewry, Museum of London, the Monument and St Paul’s Cathedral

We encouraged people to participate if you liked painting, poetry, dancing, cooking, singing, cross stitching etc..

The competition was open from the 1st June until the 28th and the winners will be announced on the first week of July.

But Remember!
Your work has to be inspired by The Square Mile!

What is the Square Mile?

While the British capital has developed into a sprawling metropolis covering more than 600 square miles, the original City of London represents its very tiny beating heart. Nicknamed the ‘Square Mile’ in recognition of the modest 1.05 square miles it actually covers, the City was founded 2,000 years ago on the northern bank of the Thames in the aftermath of the Roman invasion.

Proud of their strategic settlement on a kink in the River Thames, the Romans duly set about circling the fledgling City with over two miles of Kentish ragstone walls. While exposed stretches of this wall, from Tower Hill to St Alphege, can still be seen today, it is the buildings that sprung up deep within the heart of the City that reveal the true character and history of the area.
