THE RJ4ALL FOOD BANK

Community solidarity

Challenge

Many communities surrounding the RJ4All Rotherhithe Community centre are challenged by poverty and disadvantage. We also know that SE16 is one of the most deprived London post-codes. Following COVID19's socio-economic impact, this disadvantage is increasing. Coupled with challenges such as mental and physical health, we know that our local communities need a bit of help with their food shopping,  personal protection equipment (PPE) and clothing.

The aim of the RJ4All food bank is simple: to help address food poverty and disadvantage in the SE16 London area. We want to tackle poor diet and overcome health inequalities, by enabling residents, local communities, and low-income families to access surplus food, clothes and household items at heavily subsidised prices. Since the first day of the pandemic, RJ4All has been providing free food and PP by doing home deliveries and working with local schools. Since opening our Centre, our food bank is run from our premises on a weekly basis and in combination with our Community Fridge which is open to anyone from Monday-Friday (9:30 - 17:30). We recommend to come Tuesdays from 11 to 2 for the fresh products & best availability.

We work with Southwark Council, the Southwark Food Action Alliance and other local food banks to improve food security in the area and deliver the Fairer Food Southwark Action Plan.

Where and when?

The RJ4All Food bank:

Time: Monday-Friday 9.30 am to 5.30 pm (best availability on Tuesday from 11 am to 2 pm)

We offer fresh products, cereals, bread, canned food, and frozen meals. Our food bank operated from Monday to Friday 9.30 to 5.30, however we recommend to come at the same time as our Community Fridge session (11:00am - 14:00pm) to get the most variety of products including fresh items. We manage our food bank and other food services to ensure fair access along with careful management of our food availability. We endeavour to always provide for individuals in need, while keeping a small contingency stock.

Please note that due to limited staff capacity we cannot deliver. You can stay up to date on stock levels by calling us to check the availability.
