Background
There is an increasing phenomenon of violent radicalisation, extremism and nationalism across Europe, with a need for a new approach that will help to prevent young people from engaging in these violent activities.

As part of RJ4All's wider programme on Preventing & Addressing Violent Radicalisation and Extremismwe set up the Restorative Dialogue Against Violent Radicalisation (RDaVR) project.

Funded by Erasmus+, RDaVR is a project built on the concepts of dialogue and restorative justice and aims to prevent violent radicalisation and extremism amongst young people across Europe. The project is built on the expertise and experience of seven organisations across six Erasmus countries, which together will develop, pilot and disseminate an innovative model that will improve the knowledge and confidence of professionals working with those at risk of becoming radicalised.

RDaVR will exchange its results at national and European levels to achieve the objectives of Erasmus+, the 2015 ‘Paris Declaration’, the EU strategy for combating radicalisation and the Erasmus+ Inclusion and Diversity Strategy.

Project IO's

CPD face to face course for professionals

The first project output is the development of a CPD-accredited face-to-face course for professionals working with those at risk of radicalisation and group violence across Europe as well as young people who may themselves be at risk.

This course will be built on empirical and user-led research to increase awareness and understanding about violent radicalisation including reasons why young people become radicalised and how professionals can prevent radicalisation from occurring.

On the 23/09/2022 and the 24/09/2022, RJ4All hosted the piloting RDaVR training session with criminal justice professionals working with offenders, ex-offenders, or individuals at risk of violent radicalization. The training introduced dialogical methods such as restorative justice against violence and the triggered discussions served as catalysts for change

CPD certified E-courses

The second output was the development of a CPD-accredited e-course for professionals working with those at risk of radicalisation and group violence across Europe, as well as young people who may themselves be at risk.

Training handbook and Comparative Report

The third output is the E-book which captures all the research, pilots, learning and findings of the project. The final E-book features in two versions: the short version, with all the executive summaries of the national chapters in English including a comparative chapter in English and the long version with chapters reflecting the findings from each participating country and written in local languages.

Along with the final e-book there is also the Restorative justice & Violent Radicalisation in criminal justice settings: A training handbook e-book. It brings together the research, feedback and learning from the project in the form of training split in modules and integrates the theoretical and practical results.

This e-book can also be read in the following languages (click to dowload):

Finally, there is also the e-book: Restorative justice & Violent Radicalisation in criminal justice settings: a comparative overview from the UK, Italy, Turkey, Spain, Ireland and Romania, which was put together by all partners who carried out specific fieldwork in order to allow the training programme to be aligned with the local and current realities of criminal justice professionals.
