Project Motivation and Aims
The implementation of the EU’s fundamental pillar of free movement encourages the interaction and integration of different communities. For children and young people, educational settings is the first place where they are exposed to cross-cultural encounters, having an opportunity to form positive associations and identities. These settings can also create environments that allows for potentially negative feelings to take shape. This problem is exacerbated as educators are often pressured to prioritise core subjects that do not tackle the underlying causes of fear, division and misunderstanding that lead to discriminatory behaviour.

RRME aims to close these gaps through the concept of restoative justice music!  RRME aims to promote a music programme based on the underlying values of restorative justice of equality, social inclusion, diversity, power sharing and non-discrimination. The programme aims to produce an innovative capacity building e-course for educationalists to support them in their efforts to integrate pupils and young people who are at risk of exclusion, with a particular focus on those from migrant and refugee backgrounds. In order to ensure the quality and practicality of such a training program it will be built from the ground up in constant consultation with a user scrutiny panel consisting of teachers and other educational professionals.

RRME will also prepare a series of networking and dissemination events in order to establish sustainable links between organisations active in education, training, youth, music, and society at large. This effort to increase communication at local and regional levels will aid in spreading and entrenching the core values of the project still further. 

RRME Results

  • Create a training programme based on restorative justice music that will capacity build teacher’s and educational professionals’ ability to promote equality and social cohesion among their students. 
  • Connect teachers and educational institutions with parents and community-based professionals such as social workers through networking and dissemination events.
  • Reduce disparities among students in terms of accessing and engaging with formal and informal education.
  • Benefit disadvantaged students and those at risk of leaving school early.

Face-to-face training programme

This deliverable aims to draw from the experience of teachers and educational professionals to create a face-to-face training programme to improve the ability of educatiors to aid the integration of children from migrant backgrounds and children at risk of exclusion.
