Context of the problem
Cyberbullying of vulnerable young people is an increasing concern among all Erasmus+ countries. The heavy reliance on the internet experienced by many throughout the Covid-19 pandemic highlights the need for an urgent response that will enable both young people and youth workers to better deal with cyberbullying.

There is evidence to suggest that being cyberbullying disproportionately effects LGBTI+ groups. According to the FRA’s latest European LGBT survey, 91 to 97 % of school students have heard negative comments or seen negative conduct because a schoolmate was perceived to belong to an LGBT group during school years.

At RJ4All we have received many calls and messages on social media from young people reporting being bullied online. Some of them expressed thoughts of self-harming in relation to this. To address these concerns, the RJ4All International Institute has brought together a strategic partnership from four Erasmus+ countries to form the SIAC project in order to combat cyberbullying, with a particular focus on LGBT.

The project will disseminate its results at national and European levels, in so doing helping to achieve the objectives of the new EU Youth Strategy and the Erasmus+ Inclusion and Diversity Strategy in the field of youth.
