The ‘Community Champion Award’ was designed for the 10th anniversary of RJ4All to recognise the people who have made an outstanding contribution to our community at RJ4All. We want to celebrate the unsung heroes whose volunteering efforts have had a positive impact on their wider community.
Introducing the fabulous Community Champion Award winners of 2023
Funmi
Agbonjinmi is an incredible member of the local community in our area and beyond. She creates ties between the community centre and local residents. She is devoted to the wellbeing of young people and has been an incredible leader of the Food and Fun project which provides activities and food for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds and on free school meals during school holidays. Funmi has also provided free hygiene products to our community centre and cooked during our youth clubs.
Vani and Ramesh Gangadharan, our outstanding duo, have been incredible volunteers for our community centre. They have championed all our recent youth clubs, supported many of our community events, and collected food donations for the foodbank. They are also keen to learn about our work, have participated in trainings, and have an unconditional willingness to help others.
Sonia Castang has been a wonderful volunteer and our first Green Champion at RJ4All. She started with one session of gardening during our youth club, to eventually spearhead a weekly Growing and Sustainability Club. She has helped shape our community garden space, converting a concrete space into a flourishing garden with raised beds, flowers, and vegetables. In addition, she facilitates wellbeing circles and supports with nutrition and cooking demonstrations with her partner. Sonia is a welcoming presence at the centre and her devoted commitment deserves a nomination!
Skye Layton came to our centre in October to become a volunteer and has contributed to the RJ4All centre on many different occasions. She has jumped in to support digital drop-ins, youth club, and disability classes. Bearing a disability herself, she uses this as a strength to support others. She is a young role model for our youth!
Maria Calvo has dedicated her time to the RJ4All Community Centre as an intern. Through her time at the centre, she has heavily influenced positive changes in our youth clubs. Through her experience working with youth, Maria has assisted us in embedding a youth-led programme with a variety of activities that aim to positively impact young people in our local area. Maria has also been an integral part to the community centre through her high spirits and positive energy, having an enormous impact on our staff and service users.
