On 10th December 2022, International Human Rights Day, the Hong Kong Shue Yan University hosted an International Conference in Hong Kong to engage international scholars in restorative justice to shed light on this alternative form of criminal justice procedure across a variety of disciplines, including psychology, criminology, and socio-neuroscience.
Professor Theo Gavrielides, the Founder and Director of the RJ4All International Institute shared his research and practice expertise in restorative justice and its therapeutic effect on parties involved in the process. Gavrielides’ latest monograph “Race, Power and Justice”
outlines the strengths and weaknesses of using restorative justice processes alongside positive psychology and other sciences within criminology.
The idea of linking restorative justice with psychology and socio-neuroscience was discussed by international experts such as Professor Mikhail Lyubansky of the University of Illinois, Prof. Deborah Denno of Fordham University and Prof. Miranda Forsyth of Australian National University. Practices in the Asian region including China, Singapore and Hong Kong will also be covered.
