Neets Need Sports

NEETs NEED SPORTS
2020-3-RO01-KA205-095037

 Background

Youth unemployment in the EU is at 16.9%, this accounts for about 3.4 million unemployed young people in the EU. The rate of EU adult employment is 9.3%, this is almost half the unemployment rate of youth.

The NEETs Need sport project aims to tackle these statistical barriers that EU youth are facing by increasing the employability of marginalized young people who are not in employment, education, or training (NEETs) through developing a set of training tools for youth workers/sport coaches. This project will use sport as a learning tool through interactive, fun, and educational development activities delivered efficiently to young people.

Project Aims

Project outputs

Focus groups provide insights into how people think and provide a deeper understanding of the phenomena being studied. While a valuable research tool, surveys generally ask closed-ended questions that may limit the feedback that can be gained from a respondent. Through conducting focus groups NSS aims to gain a unique and in-depth insight into NEETS thoughts on how sports contribute to their economic, social, and environmental growth

The purpose of this material is to give sports coaches more insights into how sports are delivered for and experienced by youth who could be considered socially vulnerable. The information and methods recommended will develop sports coaches/youth workers’ understanding of how organised sports, as a series of social relationships and processes, can contribute to making socially vulnerable youth less vulnerable.

This output aims to equip youth workers with the material needed to train NEETS. It should touch on tools to increase employability, transferable skills, training guidelines and a list of skill strengthening games and exercises.

Featured events

Multiplier Event (UK)

The NNS Multiplier event, hosted by RJ4All and supported by the Erasmus+ Programme, took place on January 19th at The RJ4All Rotherhithe Community Centre in London. This event aimed to showcase the approaches and potential impact of the project in enhancing the employability of marginalized young people through training tools and sports.

Throughout the day, participants were introduced to project outputs, and had the opportunity to exchange their best practices. This was followed by an interactive sports session, which demonstrated the significant role of sports in developing the soft and social skills of young individuals.

The event concluded with a productive discussion on project workplan and milestones in the United Kingdom. Relevant organizations, youth workers, and sports groups actively engaged in this dialogue to exchange ideas and suggestions that will foster future collaborations to increase young people’s opportunities to employment.

Staff Training Workshop

Mental health, often stigmatized and neglected, has significant consequences, including self-harm, isolation, and an overall unhappy life. The COVID-19 pandemic has further exacerbated the detrimental effects on individuals. In an effort to address this pressing issue, RJ4All organized an online short-term staff training event focused on mental health.

The event, held from April 4th to April 6th, served as a three-day training for project partners involved in the NNS project. The training featured RJ4All's CPD accredited online course on mental health. This certified e-course  equips participants with effective strategies to support individuals experiencing poor mental health. This topic holds great importance for staff members, as well as for the development and employment of young people and those involved in sports, which is the primary focus of the NNS project. Notably, partners from Unió de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya, Oltalom Karitatív Egyesület, and Complexul Cultural Sportiv Studențesc Tei actively participated in the training, engaging in discussions surrounding mental health issues and feasible solutions.
