Project Motivation 

In all European countries there are too many VET students struggling with limited basic and transversal skills. We also know that there are differences in the support system offered to those students. There is a need to increase the employability skills of these students partricularly within the context of the COVID-19 socio-economic impacts. There is also a gap in the consistency fo the measures that Erasmus members adopt to support them.


To address these urgent needs, RJ4All put together a strategic partnership to run the SMART-Vet project. The project will offer VET students concrete ways for preparing for employment. SMART VET materials can be used by VET students and job seekers with a VET background in order to learn how to enroll in apprenticeship programes, and how to demonstrate their new / prospective employees they will be an asset to the company, not just a trainee. SMART-VET will also offer new ways to foster critical mind-sets needed to help business and the public sector to innovate their processes and systems to accomplish with the high standard set by European and National Governments. Such transferable, foundational skills can help economies recover more quickly following the COVID19 crisis, by helping workers more easily transition into other sectors or jobs.


The products will be digital to make them easily shared among young people, more used to online environment but also because, digital solutions will offer an easy way to deliver and transfer them, with a wider impact and easer possibility for implement follow up activities.

Project aims

SMART VET aims at equipping VET teachers, trainers and mentors in

  • Learning innovative mentoring and fostering techniques, based on non-formal education to tackle some of the challenges offered by the remote-learning situation
  • Learning how use digital, interactive materials and tools to offer more engaging learning possibility to (ex) VET students 
  • Learning how to foster (ex) VET students’ soft skills via mentoring while on remote learning situations.


During the project, the partners will explore new options for innovative, digital pedagogical approaches such as simulators and new form of mentoring to allow VET systems to take advantage of new technical solutions and increase their ability to make sure that VET programmes are providing opportunities for learning foundational skills such as digital, basic and socio-emotional skills. SMART-VET will directly support “apprentices who are forced to take breaks in training in the workplace or are unable to work due to COVID-19 related prevention measures or illness” as allowed by the UK Department for Education, 2020”.

SMART VET Results

  • Offer an innovative and stimulating tool to foster key competences and transversal skills in VET students in line with the ET 2020 policy objective of “Promoting equity, social cohesion and active citizenship”
  • Offer a joint approach to tackle common issues related with VET students readiness for work
  • Promote the exchange of expertise at the European level about skills that are not being automated by the 4th industrial revolution, and that need to be acquired to be competitive on the labour market.

Project Outputs

MENTORING TECHNIQUE

A training manual for educator on developing employability skills has been created to establish a high-quality improvement program tailored to enhance the skills and knowledge of VET teachers, trainers, and mentors.

SOFT SKILL IMPROVEMENT

The project aims to facilitate the development of soft skills among former VET students through mentoring, particularly during remote learning situations.
